The North West’s fastest growing companies have been revealed in Insider‘s latest Growth 100, with a number of entrants boasting triple-digit growth.
The table, which ranks businesses by turnover, features a diverse range of companies including retailers, technology businesses, manufacturers and law firms from across the region.
Topping the chart this year is Warrington-headquartered postal operator Secured Express which trades as Secured Mail.
The business has posted average annual growth of 260.3 per cent over the last five years with a turnover of £66.8m in its latest available accounts for the year to July 2012.
Secured Mail is backed by Next Wave Partners, which first invested in the business back in 2011 and provided another round of funding in early 2013. Its chief executive Mark Bigley was named an Insider 42 under 42 in 2010.
It is not the only PE-backed company to be placed in the list. Cheadle Heath-based On The Beach Travel, which was acquired by Inflexion in a £73m deal in October, and Skelmersdale shoe manufacturer Hotter, which underwent a secondary management buyout back by an £85m investment by Electra Partners earlier this month, have both made it onto the chart.
A number of businesses retain places in the top ten from 2013. Last years’ table was topped by Northwich-based online retailer The Hut Group, which has been placed at number seven for 2014.
Meanwhile another retailer, Footasylum in Heywood, as well as the Mansion in Cheadle also stay in the top ten.
The table is worked out using turnover for five years, as submitted to Companies House, calculated as an average percentage gain. Businesses which are overseas-owned or quoted are excluded from the list.
